I'm new to the SKS world, I picked up a 52' Tula, just shot it yesterday and now I'm hooked!
I'm not really interested in scoping it but the factory sights needed some help IMO. I had a spare Skinner peep sight post kicking around so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Turned out not bad, and it takes different apertures. Figured I'd share







 
Yes, but I was shooting right on at 100y with the rear sight resting on the rear raised part of the sight base (if that makes sense). So now dropping the sight assembly into the bottom of the base ramp it is at zero again.
 
Looks nice. How do you like the long distance from your eye to the aperture? I guess you can make it work better by putting in a bigger aperture....
I was interested in getting one of the comercial options that are like this, but having the larger aperture available this way seems like the way to go. How did you attach it? looks welded, but what kind?

Also, can you be more specific on what sight that is you used? Is it the aperture (peep) stem they advertise on the bottom of the special items page on their website?

Thanks! Im really interested in this because of the adjustable aperture, it looks like it might be the best option for a new rear sight I've seen.

With the aperture out, the ghost ring allows for a very large sight picture even though it's so far forward. The smaller apertures just helps with target shooting. It is the one listed at the bottom of his website, I had a spare from one of the sight setups I'd ordered previously. I just drilled a hole centered in front of the original sight notch put the peep in and silver brazed it in, then filed the original notch the same diameter as the peep. The beauty is the peep is just the right size for the elevator slide to fit past it and the aperture.

Did you have to shorten the shaft on the aperture or anything, or just drill/tap and screw 'er in?
 
It stuck about 1/4" through the back, but after I brazed it in I just filed the back side flush and reblued all around the peep. I didn't tap the sight base (the peep is an odd thread) just drilled to a friction fit and brazed.
 
Finally was able to give her a try today.

5 shots offhand (2 touching), 75 yards. I know I pulled the last shot (bottom), but I was impressed for not having to adjust the front sight.

 
Looks great. How easy is it to acquire a target with this sight? Please do some tests shooting from a bench at 50 and 100 meters and let us know how accurate it is. Thanks.
