Hey all I have this Chinese sks that just decided to take apart the other day and found this deep pitting on the receiver on each side of where the barrel attaches. Any input on weather this is still safe to shoot or not?

Thanks for any inputIMG_1809.jpgIMG_1809.jpgIMG_1809.jpgIMG_1807.jpg

My opinion, which worth what you paid for it, is that I would shoot it and not worry about it.

I agree with the above poster. Shoot this rifle till it doesn't shoot anymore. 74 plus years looks like the abuse sure shows, corrosive ammunition and the discharge of it really goes all over the rifle as evident to the pictures. When and if the rifle doesn't shoot anymore and becomes unsafe by how you feel then part it out to your other SKS rifles.

My '51 Tula doesn't look like that on the outside but the barrel looks like the moon. Lotsa Mil ammo and Not cleaned well B4 I got it, but it still is good for 5-6 MOA @ 100. 100% fun shooter in a Tapco stock.

How’s the barrel and chamber look? If they’re not pitted I’d be fine shooting it.

Hey

Barrel and chamber look really good and shiny. The above photos are the only pitted parts of the gun. I suppose the receiver doesn’t take much stress when firing?

I’m no gunsmith but I’d expect the chamber and surrounding chamber wall of the barrel would be the area that deals with the most force, if it’s nice as you say I don’t think I’d worry about the exterior pitting.
