So I brought home my new SKS yesterday, good condition all matching numbers dated 1950.

This morning I decided to clean it before taking it out to a local range but I found this in my gas chamber while cleaning......

There is a hole in the gas chamber other than the vent holes. Dont think its normal or is it?

I own a few sks's and i've never seen that before. It won't hurt the reliability or cycling of the rifle though... as long as the bore is in nice shape along with the rest of the rifle I'd say you're in good shape.

What did you pay for it?

I also have that on my sks. Granted its a refurb. I just got it and hadn't actually shot it.

I didn't worry about it as it was a perfect circle. Didn't look like rust so I assumed its part of the design

I nearly missed it too. It has all the markings on it tho it suggest that its a non refurb although some markings look like they are burnt it....

Not an issue at all, I'v seen several like this. There is no pressure needed that far down the tube to cycle the bolt/carrier so it doesnt matter.

Its from machining, sometimes they happen to take a little too much meat off and you get that one spot that shows through.
