SKS price going down?

Hi, I've been looking at the SKS prices, and they seem to have gone up pretty steadily.

It seems like I should have bought one while they were 169 bucks.

Now they're topping 250, and it looks like maybe I should save my pennies and get SVT-40 instead. I'm already setup to reload the 7.62x54r.

But I wonder if the SKS is something I'll end seeing on a wall for 550 dollars ten or fifteen years down the line and think....Hey! that NEVER went down in price.

What do you guys think? As it stands I don't own a centerfire autoloader of any kind, but I'm a student, so I'm not sure I should own a rifle which shoots faster than I can afford to reload.

Are you sure you're not confusing the Russina-made SKS for the Chinese ones? The $165-type are usually Chinese, the $250-ones are usually the Russian article.

you may have missed the cheap norinco but there are cheap russian arriving soon so buy one of those and in a year, you will see them up 50% .

I ordered a Russian SKS from Frontier. They had about 10-15 rifles left 2 weeks ago when i called. They are getting pinned at the moment i am told. If you have no problem waiting, give Marlin at Frontier a call. Think it was $225 plus tax/ship. They should be cleared hopefully soon.

Keep in mind that back in the 70's full wood Enfields used to sell for under $20 and the bayonets for a buck.

I have already heard of folks stockpiling misc parts and springs for their SKSs.

Sks

Have any of the Russian SKS rifles arrived yet?
I have a friend that has one from back in the 80's and it's great. But he needs the mag pinned, he never even noticed until I told him.
He hasn't shot it in 20 years so it hasn't been abused, now he doesn't want to take it to the renge.
Is there any info on what he needs to do to pin it?
I suggested a pop rivet but don't know where to put it or what length to use?
Or should he just toss that one in the garbage and buy one already converted.

Keep in mind the Russian ones were going for around $400 before this new shipment was mentioned to arrive. So if/when this shipment of Russian rifle arrive, it will not be long before the prices move up. I think $200 for and early model Chinese is a good price. Its all supply and demand. Just look and what the "D's" are going for.

I just grabbed a used SKS-D from Ellwood for 329$ plus tax & shipping & it is beat to snot, not in described conditon at all, so if you buy a used one, let the buyer beware. It seems some people who sell firearms have a different way of rating firearms than others, or they are just concerned with the sale & not the customer.

Usually from what I have seen it is a pot rivet post from the bottom, and the post prevents the mag follower from going down all the way.

Personally due to the value of this rifle I'd take out the mag and take it to a gunsmith that knows SKSs, and let them pin it.

Nothing a little epoxy and a V-shaped piece of metal can't fix ...... And it doesn't abuse the original gun .... If (when) laws get changed and you can get it to original specs again without being guilty of a rather serious crime all you gotta do is take a blow torch to the epoxy .... And no extra holes in your rifle to boot !

Russian SKS

Curtton is right, tossing the mag would be short of insane.
I remember a few years ago there was a 5 shot mag assembly available for the SKS. If thare were any of them around that would simplify the situation.
Or if there are any mags around on the market that are converted, he might be interested.

I talked to John at Marstar. He said the Norcs were supposed to be in by year's end. Simmons still have a couple @ $179.99 . They ship express post. ;)

thats funny cos last week john had nothing to say.

ZZ DENIS;
Anything is possible, however we have chosen not to enter into the SKS debate at this time....

As you know, Marstar does not discuss or offfer any products unless they are on the way in (ie; we have documents in hand) or in our warehouses....

There too many things that can go wrong and we never want to get your hopes up and then let you down because of some shipping, transit, export, import problems, etc, etc....

SKS Rifle

I tried Now Mine after a trade with my friend Russian SKS last Friday and it shoots great. After it got the cobwebs out it now works great. I found a 5 shot mag assembly for it so I didn't have to alter the original one until I get the correct specs to do it so I don't Bubba a good working gun.
