SKS question

I know you guys must get alot of stupid questions from newbs. But I have some questions about the SKS. For instance what is better a laminated stock or hardwood and why? What is the average price for a regular SKS? Is a Russian SKS better then a Chinese one? Anything I should look for to avoid a lemon?
Anything else you could add would be great. Thxs in advance guys.
