Since yugo barrels are not chromed, would it be possible to transplant a barrel from a Chinese SKS onto the Yugo receiver? Are there commercial barrels made for the SKS with chrome linings?

I'm not thinking of actually doing it but I'm just curious.

No aftermarket barrels for the SKS.....how could a barrel maker make money selling barrels for $100 guns?:)
The chinese bores are cromed, the chambers are not, neither are the gas tubes. You still have to clean all these parts after shooting corrosive ammo, how much more work is it to clean the bore at the same time?

Hey, I don't know these things, that's why I'm asking.

Chineeze barrels are pinned, yugo barrels threaded. Hard to reconcile that difference, gunsmithing will cost more, than two guns. You still have to clean chrommed barrels, otherwise moisture and corrosive primer crystals deposit into the cracks in chrome and the barrel rusts under chrome. Sometimes it might be worse than bare steel barrel.

i have an sks that was heavily modified and does have a custom barrel. this barrel was made for me by a friend in south dakota. Reason for this is that sks bores I think are a lil bigger in diameter than north american ammo bullet diameter. I am not all that sure what the details are on this whole thing but something like chinese bore is similar to .303 bore and american ammo is closer to 308 bore. So to get better accuracy either reload with bullets closer to 303 bore diameter or rebarrel to suit north american ammo. My friend was raving about this barrel i had to try cuz he did the same conversion and was getting awesome groups. I figured what the hell, 129.00 for the rifle, 100 bucks for buddies crazy barrel.... it works and works damn fine :D my most accurate sks by far.

Not all Chinese barrels are pinned , older ones are threaded ( at least mine is )
I also recall someone on here posting that they plugged a SKS barrel and it came out to .312" ( or same diameter as .303 ) but I haven't done it myself .
Cleaning isn't that difficult once you are used to it .

i can get consistent 1 1/4 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards with this sks. It has several modifications , the barrel, a custom bolt carrier with tighter rails, so it mates with my receiver better, not as sloppy in the action as my other sks's, and a trigger mod to positive engagement and 4 1/2 lbs trigger pull. If a guy was to have all this done to thier rifle I am sure it would cost a MINT. I have a gunsmith friend from the states who did all this work for me for real cheap. It wasn't my idea to modify this rifle like it has been, Walter just does this stuff for fun so I only had to cover materials and a couple bits of tooling. This rifle also has a gas shut off at the front of the gas chamber. This enables more accurate single shot fire though i rarely use that feature.
i can't see it being all that hard to hobby machine a better quality, tighter tolerance receiver for these rifles.... maybe one day when i get my shop set up :D
