Hello all CGN'ers:

I recently ordered a Scount Mount on eBay which is meant to replace the gas tube assembly. (At least I think, and if not, then the rear sight) Anyways, what type of scope would you most recommend while on somewhat of a fixed budget?
My second question is regarding 30/5 banana magazines. Is there any type which works on a standard, run-of-the-mill Chinese SKS (ie: Not a Type-D). If so, where is the best place to look for one.
Finally, has anyone every attached a Harris Bi-Pod to their SKS? If so, I would love to hear from you/see pictures of how you did it.

Thanks a lot.

I believe the mount replaces the rear sight. You will have to use a pistol scope to get the long eye relief or a red dot type.
You can get 30/5 round mag to replace your 10/5 but it will not be removable.

On the original SKS the Magazine is held in place by the trigger group, also the magazine lips themselves slot into recessed grooves on the bolt.

With some of the so called detachable ones, you have to hold the bolt back with one hand, and pull the lever with your other hand while pulling the mag. Which can be done, but is rather clumsy.

Also these magazines are often less then stellar performers in comparison to the original issued Box Magazine.

The SKS D has such parts ground away, and the magazine area slightly altered for the AK magazine. So it doesn't have a bolt hold open feature anymore.
