Hey guys I got my SKS today and just wanted to ask a few things befor I go shooting this weekend . What parts of the gun should I clean with Boiling water and soup after shoting corrosive ammo? The barrel , bolt and gas system for sure but anything alse , like the trigger assembly , receiver ? Also is it ok to submerge the bolt , and parts of the gas system in the boiling water ? Will it hurt them or should they be good if i dry them off good after. Was just thinking of doing that with an old pot then running the boiling water down the barrel. Also is there a good product to take the oil off the guns stock ?

Keep in mind that while the bore is chrome plated, the gas cylinder IS NOT!
Certainly a kettle of boiling water down both the bore and the gas cylinder are a good idea.
Don't thihk you need to do more than that.

The gas cylinder will show rust the next day if you dont clean it when you get home from shooting. Barrel takes several days before anything shows on it, same for the rest of the parts.

I might suggest you buy an inexpensive bottle of Windex, with ammonia. That is the best way to curtail the corrosive primers.

While boiling water is fine, spraying Windex is less messy and superior in performance.

Special attention must be paid to: Piston, gas cylinder, bore and chamber, bolt face and firing pin channel. Get a decent quality tooth brush (or equivalent US GI small arms cleaning brush) for cleaning.

Once brushed, dry thoroughly, then lightly oil. Inspect the above areas again a day or two later, and re oil.

Corrosive ammunition is less expensive and just as functional as non-corrosive. I've been using it for decades with no ill effects or damage to my firearms. Just clean it properly.
