SKS Questions

My buddy just bought an SKS and he has a bunch of questions of me but i know squat about SKSs. so i figure i will ask here and see what i get.

1. first off how do you tell where the firearm was made?
2. how do you remove the metal hinge magazine so you you can use the plastic tapco mags?
3. how do you take apart the plastic tapco mags to clean them?
4. is it worth while to get a trigger job done on a SKS.

What I suggest is use the search function. The anwsers to all your questions are there.

1. there are markings on the receiver. go to http://www.yooperj.com/SKS-1.htm and compare to find out.
2. You must remove the trigger guard and remove just remove the hinged mag.

3. take them apart the same as any other mag, slide the baseplate off and remove the spring and follower.
4. No it's a 200 rifle that is only good to 100-150 yards and if you're real lucky 2-3 icnh groups, a trigger job isn't worth it.

I'm surprised you don't know about them Walter i thought you knew everything

And, you would probably have more luck looking in the Red Rifles forum, which is mostly SKS, most of the time.
