Hey guys, just thought I'd post a thread to ask some of the more experienced people about issues with SKSs. I bought mine from wanstalls a while ago. I've only shot about 400 rounds through it.
Its all stock except for a cheap original wood stock I bought, stripped and painted with rocker guard. The stock it came with is a beautiful piece of wood. I wanted to keep it fresh for when I retire the rifle. Also, I've installed a steel gas tube/hand guard thing to complete my super cool hardcore look that im going for. haha.
Anyways, the thing is totally stock. and all original numbers matching. I have cleaned it thoroughly to remove all the cosmoline. I fully dissassemble, clean and lube it after every use. I use cheapy chinese corrosive ammo.
Once in a while when you load it with the 5 rounds, either by hand or stripper clip, then pull the bolt back and let it fly, the round gets stuck. It strips the round only partially from the magazine and then it gets kind of jammed on the flatish part beisde the chamber. Its very awkward to fix this because the bolt wont stay back when you pull it back obviously. Especially for my wife becuase she finds the rifle very heavy. What she has to do is dump the mag, pull the bolt back and drop the round out and start all over. Which is obviously the safe way to do it.
Also today, the 3rd or 4th round through a magazine ended up standing straight up and getting pinched by the bolt. Kind of like a stove pipe except a fresh bullet instead of an empty shell casing.
After that, ran probably anouther 50 rounds through it without a hickup.
Any tips or things to check? I read people talking about bending the lips on the magazine for some issues but most people seem to just have issues with aftermarket magazines, not the original ones.
I had my wife snap a pick of the one with the round stood up. I will upload it if people care to see it.
