Hey guys,

Looking for a little hand if possible. I am about to become the proud owner of a Russian SKS and I am not really an iron sights guy (ya, I know, boo hiss and all that =P).

UTG receiver cover I think is what I am looking for, the 3rd gen with rails as opposed to the 5th with sight rings BUT as with anything your trying to get in Canada, you do your damnest to find it and come up dry...

Anyone know where I might order one in?

Or know of a better alternative that I may have missed on my interwebs google quest.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Scope mounts on the reciever of an SKS is not a great idea as the cover is not rock solid and has a touch of movement. I have heard of guys doing a stock mount and mounting a scope to the side of the gun and have some success with that. May be a better option.

I think the general consensus is that the receiver cover scope mounts are crap and not worth the money.

They are junk in my opinion. I went with the scope mount from Hi Caliber that is drilled and tapped to the side. Rock solid and allows the use of the iron sights if needed. The only down fall is that you have to trim a bit of the stock for the mount to fit.

sks rear cover mounts are rubbish - period! Get yourself one of these.....

.

Hical.ca has a similar product and are a site sponsor

Op I have the one with the scope rings on it. If you pay shipping you can have it for free if you want to try one out. It might hold zero long enough to site in and say maybe one shot at a deer and that's probably it. It did that for a friend. But was loose afterwards so.... Locktite might hold it for awhile if your not using corrosive. Pm if you want it

This is all you need. No gunsmithing needed.

And if you mount an NC star scope on a receiver mount its super crap. save your money and frustration. Geta decent mount.

Ok. So that is a fair bit of food for thought.

So dust cover out.

Prob going to go with the one that mounts on the side, but going to wait for a bit. I want to see what the feel of the rifle is first. There is a Monte Carlo stock that is calling to me too..

Going to get the gun on Sunday. I will go from there.

Thanks guys for the info.

A lot of the ammo comes on stripper clips, also if the gun is new, as in from the crate, the oil bottle, pouch, and sling usually have three stripper clips in the pouch.
Usually you can find a few on the ground at a range also.

with the dust cover mounts most of the time you have to fit it in place making it so you can get a nice tight fit so there is no movement or play in it.
i'm looking at getting the ncstar kit for 180 comes with base rings scope and laser sight. plus still have the open sight option.
just have to clean up the edges and hand fit it in place.but it is what people want. myself i couldn't bring myself to putting holes in the stock.
