SKS rear sight removal

Trying to get my rear sight off. This is a Chinese type 56 . I see some videos where it is a simple matter of punching the sight out but looks like mine doesn't work like that. Is there, yes/no a pin that has to be punched out B4 the sight can be removed?

Use a screwdriver or brass flathead to depress the spring

I have depressed the spring as in videos on YT...no luck. If you know I would appreciate it, if you don't ...don't bother answering.

Give this a try, the spring pressure and the rearward angle of the punch is the key. It looks like a pin should be punched out but that’s not the case, at least that’s what I remember the last time I removed one. It’s been awhile so take that with a grain of salt lol.

Tried this...and several more...still stumped. Several comments suggest that some models have a pin that has to be removed... I will try with a punch set and see what happens.

Cross pin punches out first, just looked at one I have in a parts bin. It’s about the size of a small finishing nail, you won’t get it out without removing the pin most likely.

Happy to help, it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s variations of sight leaf's without the pin. There lots of changes between the years, early years especially.
