This is not an original idea, but from another SKS board.

1. Remove the dust cap cover pin,, dremel

2. Take a 1/4 20 tap and run it through from right to left, with the cover in place,

3. Now replace the cover pin with a button headed screw

The screw insures the cover is tight and returns to the same place every time. I have a quick release sight so even more room for error. Holds the zero and it’s been on and off numerous times. If I want to just use the red dot I can take the cover off and return the original cover.

Sorry if the picture are not as clear as they shoud be, but you can see that the screw replaces the pin.

I saw this on another site as well (prob. same one as you), and am very interested in doing this to my SKS. I am concerned about the overall height of the railed dust cover combined with the scope. Seems really tall. How does it work for you?
Thanks.

You could probably just put a weaver rail and mount you sight of choice. Zero at your preferred range (100) and go from there. Biggest problem I have is dispelling the “will not hold a zero”. If it’s just a cover replacement then, not a hope in hell of holding a zero, you need to do some gunsmithing, and tap for a screw, then we can talk zero.
