I came across these photos.

I guess they are refurbishing them and selling them as hunting/sporting guns to civilians in Russia. That is not something new, but it was done by another factory (Molot) and in the past by TOZ as well.

This is the first time I come accross a BAIKAL refurb.

It may be a good idea if Baikalcanada imports some of these as well.

these a good rifles, but they have bayonet lug removed and drilled and pinned barrel under the gas tube. The pin leaves close to unique scratches on the bullet when fired. This is no big deal but some Russians claim that this slightly affect accuracy...

If they were to export them, they would not need to put a pin in the barrel under the gas tube OR remove the bayonet lug...

I'd buy one...

Cheers

IZH sells baikal products , this from their site :

IZH Impex Inc is an exclusive distributor in Canada of the Russian firearms produced by Izhevsky Mechanichesky Zavod and well known throughout the world under the trade mark Baikal.

Importing the "sporter" might be worthwhile if the pricing can be kept the same or less than the surplus rifles.

I'd rather see bubba have a go at these than an untouched 1949 tula.

The commercial packaging certainly seems geared for N. America.
