Hello Everyone

I would like to put a mount on my SKS. Something like a weaver base mounts. I was wondering where I could get this type of mount in the Toronto area. I was also wondering if anyone would know where I get this put on by a gun smith. Again in the Toronto area! Also how much would a gun smith charge for something like this and also how long would you think it would take?

Thanks

Mark

one of the options for weaver mount:

you would need a rail permanently attached (well, not welded and can be removed :D) to the receiver

something like this:

and quick detachable mount something like this:

i like this option and i see there is no chipping off part of the wood. is the mount stable if i chose not to screw in the lower part of the mount?

I'm thinking of doing this as well later down the road to one of my laminate SKS with a POSP scope. Wouldn't mind some input on that either.

Check this guy on ebay:

SKS 4X30 RIFLE SCOPE WITH TRI RAIL MOUNT COMBO PACKAGE
(NC Star SKS Rifle Tril Rail Mount, NC Star 4X30 Compact Scope, NC Star 2 Pack Scope Rings.)
My roomie got one and it took some hand fitting (as per instructions) you will need a file but now it's on there rock solid and for $55 it's hard to beat this deal. plus it's in Canada so no border probs.

I have to be honest man, I havn't heard anything but bad things about those mounts. There's a reason it's only $55.00 me thinks.

The scope is cheap, you get what you pay for, but it is an sks after all. The only problem we had with the mount is you have to loosen all the set screws off before you remove the cover for cleaning so you some times have to make slight adjustments to re-zero after.

Try what I did then.
1) Remove screws and add red lock tight.
2) Screw back in the screws but not all the way.
3) Place a buissness card under the screws.
4) Lightly tighten them as the red lock will keep it in place & red lock tight the nuts also.
5) Check to see if the rear cover can barely slide on and off.
6) If every thing works fine. Clean of excess lock tight & let set for atleast 24 hours.
7) These buy this add on;
This little plastic piece will keep your spring in the same position;

This should stop your cheap optic's crapping out on you to quickly;

Although if your buying a FITCO optic you will soon relieze why it's 50% off.
Happy shooting and please post back result of what you ended up doing.

OK so I have that exact problem with my SKS Barska scope with receiver mount bouncing around and losing zero or unthreading altogether. I finally got it loctited up but those extra parts there in your pics look like they may add that extra stability that is missing. What are those and where can I get 'em ?

In my opinion this mount is comparable to the choates mount and it is a non gunsmith mount. You can get the gas tube off,you remove the rail with your optics on from the mount with 4 grub screws. The mount stays on the rifle.If you decide on a scope instead of a red dot you will need a long eye relief scope.
i was wondering what about this mount

I just found one problem with this mount and that is that you can not get the gas chamber off of the gun unless you take the mount off or get a small red dote schope. (witch i am getting)

what are you thoughts on this one?

but due to taking off the rail would it not take the red dote scope off zero? or would it stay the same?

I bought one of these too and it did not require any filing.
It moves around alot.....:(
The locking screws are crap too as far as I am concerned.
My eyesight is pretty bad so using open sights is'nt really an option.
I need some magnification....
I'm gonna play with it a bit but I might go with the solid mount.
