I have the pictured Scope Mount with integral Weaver Rail. It screws into the receiver over top of the Receiver Cover. So....... How do you remove the Receiver Cover so that you can remove the bolt and clean it. The Lever cannot be moved to 12 O'Clock because the Scope Mount impedes it. I hate to bend the lever out so that it clears, but I sure don't want to remove and replace the Scope Mount each time I have to clean it.

Should the Lever be removed and replaced with a bolt?

Don't take this the wrong way, but in my opinion you should do this:

1) Take your scope off.
2) Take off the mount by unscrewing it.
3) Carefully lay the mount on the floor.
4) Take out a 20 pound sledge hammer and smash the sh!t out of that piece of junk mount and throw it in the trash where it belongs.
5) Order this mount: ht tp://www.combatstocks.com/SKS_Scope_Mount_by_Choate.cfm (PS if you ask nicely they will ship it to Canada.)
6) Live happily ever after.

The problem with the SKS is corrosive ammo. You have to strip it down every time you use it or you risk corrosion. The mount you have, while it may work, will not return to zero even if you can get it off. The fact that it doesn't even fit as it should, shows you the quality of these types of mounts. The Choate mount, while it has to be drilled and tapped offers rock solid stability, and it also allows you full access to the receiver without having to remove the mount...

I've tried most every mount I could think of for the SKS and the Choate is the best, by far...

Anything short of that?

Anyone else?

while i would only recommend a drill and tap to the left side , i prefer russian style scope and mount posp .

however , the fact that you have already have this mount on , i would recommend you dremel the back part on the right side of the mount to allow free movement of the receiver latch . i would not recommend you remove the latch and replace it with a bolt bcos its a pain having a few addition parts like screw , nut , washer and a wrench to carry also the nut tends to unscrew after a series of shots .

btw , you might wanna move the scope back a bit cos the casing will hit it once in awhile , add a butt pad to compensate .

so put away the hammer and pull out the dremel .:D:D:D:

I am afraid you are going to have to remove the scope mount to clean the bolt. I have a B-Square mount on my SKS and have removed it three times so far for cleaning without losing zero....

In fact I have removed the mount for good, and I am contemplating smashing it to bits lest it harm someone else's SKS. I'll leave changing out the mount to the next owner as it's going up for sale - I just wanted it thoroughly cleaned beforehand. "WTS Nice Yugo 59/66 that's been drilled and tapped".

I have bought three used SKS's and all three had corroded and partially seized firing pins. You must remove the bolt, dissassemble it and clean it after each firing of corrosive, which is what 95%+ of SKS shooters use. Further, Always check to ensure the firning pin is free before loading the mag. I had the pleasure of watching a five round mag get emptied in about a second with an SKS with a seized firing pin. Fun to watch, but a potentially very dangerous situation.

I purchased an NC Star Gas Tube Scope Mount and a long eye relief scope will go on it.

I used the scope mount you had and I could never make it stop wobbling.
