SKS scope mounting

These are OK, but the best solution is the Choate scope rail that you screw into the side of your receiver. I have one of those and with a short scope I can still use stripper clips. Never loses zero and can still easily clean without taking off the scope.

I agree that the Choate drill and tap mount is the most sturdy and doesn't change POI when you remove the dust cover to clean your SKS. I have mounted hundreds of scopes on SKS's in the old days when this was our main firearm we sold and was often disappointed with most other mounts. The only problem with the Choate is that is permanently alters your gun. Phil.

agreed, the choate design was copied from an original Russian side scope mount for SKS.
You can still buy that original Russian military grade steel side scope mounts in Canada, for example here (I am not affiliated with these guys): http://westrifle.com/wrstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22&products_id=1525
and it's cheaper.
so:
1. cheaper
2. mil grade steel, not aluminum
3. allows using the normal sights
4. allows striper clip loading
5. the most stable POI and least cumbersome

Lol what's exactly constitutes mil grade steel?
 
I don't remember the Russian specs, which were called (G-O-S-T + number) for military grade steel for that side rail, but I said that to distinguish it from modern China "paper steel" of a very low quality.
I would speculate it is comparable or better qual than DIN 7991 - ISO 10642 screw (Steel Class 12.9 - Extreme Strength), for example

Lol alrighty. I can't imagine that would be necessary for something like this.

Nor would I bet it's something very special. Almost wanna buy one just to test it lol

x2. Just make sure you mount it where you can still use stripper clips. I have tried every mount possible and this is by far the best I have used. Qwik rail is the next best. I have a scope on now, but with a red dot stripper clips work great. Since this pic I have put lower rings on which work much better.

The only problem with trying and not liking it is 4 holes in the action.
But, I doubt, you dislike it.
And yes, when mounting, make sure the stripper clips fit
 
There are a lot of good mounts out there that work but for me google "Convert a Mount" It is a shotgun mount that works on a SKS with only small modifications. Many more features can be obtained with the Convert a Mount over any of the other mounts.

the only problem is using the normal sights at distances > 100m, 'coz it looks kind of low
