I installed a steel handguard/shell deflector that works perfectly on my SKS
It did require a little fitting on the gas tube but looks and functions great.
i had one of those before . the vented HG are awesome looking, pretty easy to install , no drilling . then i decided not to scope my early chinese SKS which would require me to drill holes .
Drill holes into what? I only had to knock out the pin that holds the hand guard ferrule, the deflector bolts to the new hand guard.

The Choate scope mount does require drilling, had mine done on a vertical mill, no chance of the holes being off and it is just a Chinese SKS, the most Bubbafiable rifle on the planet.
