SKS sight tool problem

This is likely common but google was not my friend today.

Taking the 1954r SKS to the range is great fun but when I was there with my new adjustment tool, the windage drum around the front sight does not allow my tool to press against the pin that allows the side to side adjustment. I either need to cut the tool down, drill the hole in the tool larger, or adjust the drum somehow.

Is this common enough to have a solution?

Much thanks!

I'll take a very wild guess and say it's not the correct sight tool for the model/make of rifle you have. Mind you, the illiterate conscripts the SKS was made for weren't smart enough to adjust sights.

Had the same problem with the sight tool I purchased. On closer inspection, the tool can't line up properly with the windage drum because the front sight shroud is in the way. Cheap stamped metal tool that didn't properly take variable sks dimensions into account I'm guessing. I filed off about an 1/8 inch on both top sides of the tool and it works now...
