I just took delivery of an SKS from S.I.R. Included with the rifle was a green canvas sling. The leather loops used to attach the sling to the rifle have three slots cut into them. Two slots are close to one end of the loop. The third slot is on the other end of the leather loop.
How does one correctly attach these loops to the rifle?

Honestly, I threw mine in the garbage and made a new one out of 1" black nylon web. I got the web from mountain equipment co-op, as well as the buckles, total cost was around $5 with tax :D

As far as your question is concerned, there should be some double-sided buttons that came with the sling, either in a little plastic baggie or already installed in one of the slots on each sling loop. These buttons simply go through the slots on the sling loops from both sides after each loop is slipped through the sling rings on the rifle. If you don't have the buttons, you can tie the loop closed with tie-wire or zap straps. The two slots that are close to the end of the loops are simply for adjusting the size of the loop, you should only have the button through 2 holes at a time. Hope that helps!
