Just wondering if the item in the SKS tool kit is a spare firing pin as some have suggested. Doesn't look nearly anything close to what is in the gun?...shorter and rounded. How would you pin it ? Third item from bottom left.

It most decidedly is not a spare firing pin; as you've noted it's far too different. It's a tool that can be used as a punch, to help depress the trigger group catch, to aid in turning the gas tube lock lever, and various other tasks when stripping or cleaning the rifle.
(The spring isn't part of the kit, it's just there to push the kit out of the storage compartment.)

It's also the "tee" handle for the cleaning rod.
