I know most people say you don't need it, but I've had a couple of slam fires using my handloads(CCI primers), and yes I do clean the pin/bolt and it has done it again. It's rare, but it gets the frowning of a lifetime at the range.
Who sells the spring loaded pin in Canada? Anyone else getting slam fires with commercial primers? I made a nice hole in the dirt a few feet in front of me last time when I crashed the bolt, really got everyones attention.

That's the only reason to need a spring loaded pin. I think you can get the Murray's pin shipped here, that's the best one.

Our range banned steel cored surplus, so I messed around with handloads til I actually prefer my own loads with cast bullets.
The CCIs are very soft compared to the manly Russian stuff!

Murrays ships to Canada call his shop great to deal with, even sent a couple of extra springs for no charge when I asked for some.
