Hi. a friend of mine wants to convert his SKS so it uses removable magazines. He prefers steel and also wants them to be 30 round "size" (I know they have to be pinned) as he likes the banana style mags. So can anyone help us find a supplier?

Cheers! Steve.

i got mine from wolverine, i posted about it in their forum, they say they are expecting more...

to be able to attach the mag with the bolt closed requires bolt modification, but they do load with stripper clips and hold open on the last shot...they also don't feed as reliable as the original magazine...i'm working out the kinks, but so far it's not reliable. looks cool, but not reliable.

Wait, do you have to mod your SKS to be able to use box magazines?

the metal detachable mag does not fit my 1950, but it fits my 54 Izzy fine...but again it can only be insterted with the bolt open...i certain the feeding problem has to do with the follower, but if i tweak the lips, i could possibly make it feed properly...mine didn't work out of the box.

Hey guys, on this topic, I have a large "30" round mag from an AK. it doesn't have the "duck bill" on the front end. Will I be able to fit this mag into my 54 russian? The gun is already in an ATI stock. Thx

No. Duckbills fit the standard SKS but may need fitting as previously posted. The Chinese SKS-d and Chinese SKS-m take ak47 mags but not standard SKS mags.

Reminds me of a review of survival rifles I saw online, the SKS got top marks over the AR-15 because the stripper clips held more ammo
in less space with less weight than detachable magazines...and they're a lot less money. The gun shop owners who did the review liked
that in a survival scenario you could carry more ammo on you in less space and with less weight. Here you guys want to convert to mags.:)

I remember the exact review and while it sorta does make sense.

I tend to trust militaries around the world instead of a bunch of American gun nuts who huff paint and fantasize about survival scenarios.
