Hey guys,
Just for ####s and giggles, which stock do you prefer on the SKS? Im getting mine very soon and I'm leaving it as is for now. Eventually, I'd like to put a Choate Conventional stock on it. I'm also torn apart because the Tapco Stocks are pretty decent. Gives the rifle more of an assault Rifle feel even though it'd not really supposed to be...

So whats your choice?

I was very disappointed with the Tapco stock on a friend's SKS. The gun felt very unbalanced and you can't mount an optic on the rail since it's not solid at all.

I'll keep mine stock.

True enough. I don't see why people need to try to make a cold war era CARBINE into a tactical rifle or mall ninja sniper weapon. There don't seem to be tons of posts with people looking to **** up M1 carbines with crummy aftermarket stocks, rails, laser and red dots...

Yes, they're cheap, blah blah blah. So were Enfields at one time.

The original stocks ergonomics are sh*t. Anything is better than the original.
Only if you are bigger than 6'3". Even then I'd disagree. There is something to be said for a straight up rifle stock, and its simplicity. Ive never felt anything but "at home" behind a stock SKS. Different people will have differernt ergonomic requirements, but the origional doesnt add any bulk or length or weight, and gets the job done.

I'll be leaving mine stock, after having fired a monte carlo (my fav of the after markets) a druganov, and 2 other types of stock (names escape me) I just couldnt get comfortabe with them. Aside from the fact of putting a $200 stock on a $150 gun, and turning a 6lb rifle into a 20lb lite-brite with all the kit i see on these things on the range........whatever, to each their own.

I picked up a cheap plastic monte carlo and did a cool snow camo paint job, turned out really nice. Love it.

I have to agree, somewhat. I like mine stock, but I'm only 5'11" and shooting for a while is uncomfortable with the short length of pull.
cz858 on the other hand, is much handier.
