Hello I am looking to get a wood stock for my Russian SKS that has a tapco stock on it. I am having trouble sourcing one and the only one I can find on ####### is local sale and is a 5 hour round trip for me.

Would appreciate any feedback as to where to find one that isn't asking 199+tax

Equipment Exchange is your best bet.

PS - I got a Chinese one from GP last year . . . put my old '51-Tula in it and sold the package. Then bought a new in Box/Cosmo Unfired Chinese FT for the same money. Just sayin'.

I got this off a friend and it has a tapco stock so was just planning on selling the stock and replacing it with a wood one

I kept my Tapco stock and 5-mags, then put the FT into it. I still have the 'new' chinese stock if I ever want to 'get some wood going'. The 'old' chinese stock cost me $10 last year.

And the Tapco/Russkie packages are selling for ca $7-1000 on GP. You can trick out a Chinese "NEW" rifle and then some.

Well, the main diff I'm concerned with is that most of the Russ rifles have been shot to Heck and not properly cleaned. There are some minor diffs in construction of some of the older models but generally not big diffs. I've had a couple older Tulas that the bore looked like the Moon's surface. The Chinese French Ticklers (when you can find them) are NIB still in Cosmo. You can find lots of SKS-info on SKSboards dot com. See my pics of bores in this thread - https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...-i-need-to-purchase-for-the-cleaning.2467902/

I just checked and Tenda is 'out' of FTs, but have the Jungle Stock avail. I think they're NIB/Cosmo, too. Since you're wanting to keep the Tapco, I'd get the Jungle, swap actions, put the Russkie in the plastic stock (a 'selling point' for Synth-stock? ) and let it go. Here's the J-S @ Tenda - https://www.gotenda.com/product/chinese-sks-type-56-五六半-7-62x39-jungle-stock-limited/ ( "limited" means Supply is Limited )
And they still have some Spam Cans for $209.99, just buy a brick of some good 22LR to get over $300.

Thanks buck. My original plan was to replace the tapco stock I currently have with a wood stock and sell the tapco to cover the difference. I imagine if I went that route I would have to get a fixed mag as well since it seems to be the stock only for sale.

I suppose I could just order a jungle at that price and hold on to the Russian, I see them asking for 800-1000 on GP for the Russian in a tapco. It's all matching serials too if that even makes a difference.

Having the Tapco makes the SKS 'more convenient' to handle, more 'ergo' that's why the Tapco looks sorta like an AR. I had 2x Russians b4 I got the Tapco, and regret not going there sooner. Both were 'matching', too, but w/o having the OEM stock it's not a 'big thing'. Both sold in the $500 range, tho both times I sold ammo with them. The major point of getting a Chinese is to have it unfired, so you're starting with a 'new' rifle instead of 60+ yrs old. I just think my idea for switching stocks would be the best plan for functionality.
