Hey folks,

I did a little work on my Tapco to get the most out of it.
I decided to try a red dot on the gas tube rail, so I wanted to tighten the whole thing up a bit.

The receiver had movement front to back in the stock, so I used some puddy epoxy to take up the space at the back end. Side to side is very tight so I didn't need to do anything in that regard.

At the front end I used JB WELD to mould the forend to the barrel bracket.

In order to be able to remove the trigger guard without removing the grip, I needed to Dremel out some material from the pistol grip. I then used JB to secure the grip to the stock, along with the screw. That sucker ain't never comin' off! :)

I wanted the shroud to be as securely fastened to the gas tube as possible. I used JB to bed the shroud to the gas tube brackets. I also bedded the shroud to the stock.

I had to file a little bit of material from the two top front corners of the mag to get it to fit my receiver, a 1951 Tula.

I decided to leave the bayonet off, as well as the cleaning rod, for aesthetic reasons.
Fear not purists, my rifle is 100% convertible back to milsurp specs. :)
I reckon I'll take it out shooting this Thursday, I'll let you know how it does.

Well I figured I would try this out. I had about an 1/8" play forward and back on my stock. I fixed that by molding JB weld on to the front of the stock behind the barrel bracket. Took out all the play front to back. I didn't have to do anything else to it, the fit is nice and tight now.

This should be something that anyone with a Tapco stock should do to theirs .. imo.

Maybe stickied into the sks basics thread?

Just make sure to shoot it with ear plug's in because once this rifle is properly beded your ear's will ring from the pinging sound ;)

Nice work... post results.

One of my SKS's is in tactical disguise as well. I have not bedded it (yet). It gets consistent 4 inch groups at 75 yards. My laminate SKS gets as high as 3 inch goups at 75 yards. This difference may not, however, be due to the stock type, as my 1952 Tula sits very snuggly inside its Tapco stock -- which I love. Very nice quality compared to the rest of the light weight folding stocks on the market.

Sorry, forgot about this thread. :)
I shot the gun with the red dot and irons. 2" at 100m shooting Czech surplus. Past that range it opens up real wide because of the size of the dot on the scope. Groups aren't any better with the dot than the iron sights, but target acquisition is faster. I'll see if it holds zero after taking the gun completely apart for cleaning next time I get out to shoot.
I like the gun, real fun stuff.
