Looking to mount the strikefire on the handguard.

Had two questions, first, do I get the extra high mount or low mount?

Second, I had to file down a part of the handguard because it would not shut properly, it was sitting too high. It looks pretty steady, doesn't move around that is, my only concern is every time i shoot I need to clean the piston and that means removing the handguard, I'm not sure what kind of effect this will have on holding zero so if any one has any experience with this please do tell.

Thanks,

Get a B.C. Tactical mount for it and with the low mount you should be good to go. I would steer clear of the ones that go on the gas tubes.

Scout mount from BC tactical is rock solid and looks nice:

Sounds good, but from the pics above you think threes a chance the ejected rounds could hit the red dot? The strikefire is a bit longer..

You can get a shell deflector. But the BC Tactical mount is short, so be sure the optic will fit. If not, go for a scout mount from this manufacturer:

If you want to use a strikefire there are 2 options: First is the scout scope mount Sadosubliminal posted, you can mount the optic far enough forward to clear the ejection path altogether. With the BC mount the strikfire will hang over the action and get hit, the solution for this is on page 6 of the SKS optics sticky. A quick mod to the reciever that will allow spent casings to eject to the right rather than up. In the last 2 pics you can see the back of my strikefire mounted on the scout scope mount. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=439418&page=6 last post at the bottom
