Just contemplating a tech sight for the SKS, does the receiver cover need to be modified in order to install the rear sight?

Thanks for the help.

From what I understand, you only have to cut away a small piece of the stock at the rear in order for the sight to sit low enough to bolt in.

No cutting on mine either. The only thing you have to do is replace the old takedown lever with the new sight assembly pin and then snug up some set screws against the back of the cover. After that you need only unscrew the sight and take it all apart like normal. Mine returns to zero faithfully.

No cutting on my Russian.

I even managed to save the takedown lever from its date with a dremel.

I used vise grips and grabbed the pin and rotated it... titty-twister style. That loosened it up a lot, and helped me see where the pin was located from the backside. Was able to easily punch it out after that. A bit of marring from the grips, but no biggy.

I also installed a thin front post. I was a little bit miffed that I had to file the flats down for my front sight tool to work on it. Was a little thicker on the flats than the original Russian front post.

Only some aftermarket stocks need some fitting, you need to remove the factory takedown pin, but we have new ones in stock if you ever need to put it back.

The answer is yes, the cross pin in the receiver cover has to be modified so you can pull it out.
This normally requires, dremeling off the protrusion, unless you do the plier thing mentioned above (I didn't think of that when my tech sight went on).
