My Google-fu let me down and the forum search didn't help much either...

There is a pic floating around of a wood thumb-hole stock from (I think) a Russian manufacturer or vendor. Kinda looks like the fancy one Brownell's has for the 10/22 but this one's in Walnut(?)

Anyway, I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of that post or even re-post it here.

Thanks fellas.

I just used Google image search and got this ....

years ago Fajen made a laminated thumbhole stock for the sks. can't find a pic, been trying to find one of those stocks for years now. boyds says they will do a run when they get enough preorder commitments.

There's a guy in "western Canada" (don't want to give his name up yet) that is working on mass producing these. ETA is 4-6 months I think, both for the "D" and the 45/56 series.

Good luck mass producing them, nobody will want to pay, only way you can make money is with a plastic stock, people with $200sks are not going to spend big bucks for a nice wood stock. You won't be able to make a wood one anywhere near the price of a plastic stock

True ... but there will always be someone out there who would. It would depend on how much the person likes their rifle, and can justify paying that much for a stock like that. If they did mass produce synthetic thumbhole stocks, it would be much better. And that would be something I would drop a few bills on :p:p

Market is already flooded with good plastic stocks, I made a cnc sks. Wood thumhole stock back in december, people wanted to pay same as plastic ones, or they wanted a slightly different one, the one I did make looks cool on my gun

actually, at smaller volumes, the cost of producing a wood stock would be far more equitable than trying to get into the plastics business...you may be surprised...I personally would pay for a unique, comfortable wood stock on an already small investment.

$200 for an SKS? I bought both of mine for $35 each. The plastic stocks I bought cost more then the guns;)

Many don't like plastic. Some would buy "custom" fully finished wooden stocks. Many would buy unfinished wooden stocks. Unfinished shouldn't be too expensive...Decent walnut blank around $70, work???

Plastic sucks. Hence my interest in a decent wood stock. I have a mix master Tula that is fast becoming my fave truck gun. I had the bayonet mount sawed off and the stump milled smooth and re-blued (ok, re-painted:)). A decent wood stock with a longer LOP would finish her up nicely. Never mind Walnut - How about a nice close grain engineered product like you might find in micro-lam beams? Cut off ends can be had at your local lumber center for a couple bucks each. Hard, dent resistant, take a stain well... Think SVD stock.

Yah TP2, $70.00 for a decent blank would be fine. Nothing too exotic tho :p

Only way to sell them at $70 would be to have them made in china, my time involved and all my equipment I would be working for peanuts. Plastic stocks at my local gun shop run about 70-80 bucks. If someone can make them for that price I would be shocked. Most of the plastic stocks are probably made in china too
