I have always wanted an SKS but not for the 4 or 500 they seem to be going for used

I was wondering why nobody started offering conversions ?

350 or 400 for a new one would be more my style

because you cant just make a kit, there is a recess machined into the reciever to create a lip to catch the front of the mag, and the magazine release is integral to the trigger group. best you can do is duckbill mags with that adaptor that allows you to remove most of the duckbill. I suppose a Canadian company could make some up but I dont know what type of market there is for them.

I totally would buy a conversion kit as most of these stock pining job's suck and there is an abundance of AK mag's in the world.

I bought both of mine unfired with extras for $450.00 each. When you take the price of the extra mags and teh scope and rail into account I paid just over $300-325 for them each in original boxes. Be patient and have money in hand. I have seen a few for close to $600 and that is crazy, I would rather have a CZ 858 or FSN for that.

Bottom line is that the machining to create a D would cost more to do in Canada than the price of a used SKS-D. Commy labour was cheap in those days ;)

You mentioned $600 for an SKS-D. Well early last year I put on an SKS-D unfired gun for best offer on CGN. I bought the gun in 1996 and never fired it. And left it in the cosmoline grease. I decided to keep it and shoot all those AK mags that I have. I own a few Ak-47s including a Hungarian model FEG. I think I was really stupid not to sell the SKS-D. Because a couple of days after I decided to cancel my for sale ad, a guy came along and offered $800 cash for it.

Moral of the story. It someone is that foolish to part with his cash, let him. Don't be foolish and hold on to something when you can get the bucks now for it. The second moral is, we at CGN are our own worst enemies. WE are the ones speculating and driving up prices of ammo and guns that aren't really worth their value. But that is human nature. We all want to profit.

If they all sold for $800, someone WOULD be converting them, but priced higher than a VZ58 type rifle, the market has got to be small.

if you could utilize a 30rd mag it would likely be available from someone...but when all you can have is 5 at a time the only reason to have it is looks imo...
Changing something that works for something that "may" just for looks doesn't make much sense...or more importantly, money!
I'm gonna built a big banana mag that goes over the factory one like a ##### extension. It will look like you have a big mag AND you will still have the reliability of the factory one! ;)
I already drew up the plans and mailed them to myself so don't go stealing my idea :p

I don't remember where i found this. I've been kinda wanting to try it, but I don't want to bugger anything up :)
