I disassembled my Chicom SKS. How the H33L do you pop the group back in? It just won't pop over the "knob' on the group retainer. Is there a trick?

At :32 this is my problem...no way a sharp slap works, more like a sledghammer maybe. I have 2 mags, both will not fit easily. I think some metal grinding is in order.

Try using a rubber hammer to give it a tap, the "spring catch" that hold the trigger group can be VERY stiff.

Put the magazine in all the way to the front and then slide the trigger group under the notch on the back of the magazine. This can be a bit tricky so make sure the mag is all the way in and the front of the trigger group as well. Sometimes the magazine does not want to go all the way down, just force it before using the sledge hammer on the trigger group, which will only ruin the gun. Use a rubber mallet on the open magazine if needed.

If you’re sure the safety is on and everything is in the right place you might just need to give it a good whack or push hard

Try pushing at a 45 degree angle towards the muzzle end of the rifle (not straight down, not forward, in between)

Nylon faced hammer is your friend. I had to literally beat mine into place. It was an azzhole of a job actually.

This is, without a doubt, the worst part of re-assembly. Just like many people, that light snapping motion of the Brownell's videos is not how it actually works in all my cases (I have multiple SKSes of varying years and they all have the same issue). In almost all cases, I have one of my kids hold the stock stable while I use both hands and lean all my weight into that trigger group with a QUICK, SHARP downward angled movement. The key is the quick, sharp movement, not a gradual push down (which never seems to work).
