I bought an sks last week and liked it so much it I decided to buy a second one yesterday. When I got the 2nd one home I noticed the safety did not "click" on and "click" off like my first one. Upon inspection I noticed the first one has a leaf spring in the housing which encourages it to go one way or the other... the 2nd one has no spring so you have to move it all the way on or all the way off by hand. Do some sks's have safety springs and some do not? Just wondering if I'm missing a part. FYI the first one is a 1953 Tula and the 2nd is a 1952 Tula.

Thanks for the help.

Quite a few of the springs were removed in service. They operate fine without it unless the safety lever is badly worn.

I had no idea there was supposed to be a spring there. Neither of mine 'click' into place, just a slow, steady drag. The lever stays very firmly in place without said spring.

Thanks so much guys. So it looks like I am not missing a spring in my '52 and got lucky to have one in my '53.
The info sticky tells a lot about what came on each years sks, it will explain a bunch about your rifles, I use it often! It will get you more in tune with what you have!
