Hey guys looking for advice. I bought an SKS from cabelas couple years ago. Cosmoline and all. Cleaned and only put about 100 rnds through it since. I never paid attention to the trigger until i noticed trigger mods on you tube. My trigger is not gritty at all. Little travel and seems to break clean. As far as i can tell it has neutral engagement. Would the trigger mod improve by a lot? I've read positive reviews for kivaari. Would never attempt myslef.thanks.

It can help but doesn't sound necessary in your case/trigger. The trigger would have to be terrible or unsafe for me to want trigger work on a sks. In the end it's up to you but I wouldn't bother.

I tried a friend's sks at the range and the trigger pull was extremely long and gritty. Last year I got one from cabelas and was surprised at the trigger pull. It was short and crisp. An inspection of the trigger group revealed that extensive work had been performed in the trigger group? I do not know if cabelas does that?? Must be the tula factory. It seems all aspects of the linked video above have been modified for proper trigger pull

Forgot to mention it was the laminate version. Springs on the trigger were a bit too rusty for my liking. Another excuse for doing this as the kivaari guy would replace springs too, however a little pricey.

Thanks for vid Dillagaf. Informative but also beyond my skill. I guess the slight improvement over what I have wouldn't be worth the price or risk.

Hmmm maybe Cabela's asked the the ones doing the refurbs to at least make it safe? Being a big company they probably want to cover their butts.

Guaranteed that Cabelas did nothing of the sort.

SKS is supposed to have a long uptake and the a slightly longer length of pull from there as it's a military rifle that gives you lots of notice before you get to the end of the trigger and don't set it off accidentally in the field by snagging on items etc..

So long as it's not wobbly or all over the place I'd leave well enough alone unless you know what your doing or can accept it getting worse.

Personally I wouldn't bother. No the trigger is not very good but it does tend to improve with use. Remember this is a $200 rifle with most likely 3-5 MOA accuracy. While a better trigger is nice it really isn't going to do much overall. Love it for what it is not what you want it to be.

The only SKS advice you need.

If your rifles trigger is good leave it, i have seen nice tuned triggers on russians so they do exsist. I have tuned a few it is not hard.
Ensure your trigger has neutral engagement
ensure the safety works and both dissconnectors, *note* not all have the second dissconnector
ensure it wont go off when bumped.
Trigger travel will increase but that is a good trade off, to get rid of the pile of rocks in there.
Be safe

...i had good triggers on my sks's, but i'm ocd when it comes to fiddling' on firearms, and i did the triggers, and now good triggers are great triggers :)

I will second/third/fourth Cabela's lack of refinishing...

I went through their used inventory asking questions about an older shotgun... Asked the guy what they do for safety/inspection. You know, buying a gun from X years ago, I'd feel better knowing someone educated looked it over?

Guy told me they do a very basic visual inspection, very rarely clean them before re-sale, never fire them, and proceeded to try and sell me a new shotgun off the floor.

That all being said: Last month I bought my 1st SKS from Cabela's for 239$ - Cleaned fully and took it shooting - Now I'm just waiting on a front sight tool and debating whether to re-finish stock or replace with an ATI... hmmm.
