I picked up a old sks and at first I couldn't get through 1 shot without having to push the trigger forward. I scrubbed and sprayed it with WD40 to and today I got 20 shots off with only 2 having to push it back when it gets stuck.

Whats the cause of this? Should I just swap all the trigger internals with my parts SKS and call it a day or is this a simple fix.

the trigger group is probably gummed up with dried oil / powder residue. Either that or the trigger spring is bad. I would put the trigger group in a can filled with gun cleaning solvent such as hoppe's #9 and leave it over night.
Then use the compressor to blow the solvent out and lightly oil it with a gun oil (don't use WD40). Try and see if it works. If not take it apart - there are videos on youtube if you can't find it let me know.

First I would try taking the trigger group out of the rifle completely. Clean completely with mineral oil/varsol or brake cleaner to remove old cosmoline etc. Dry completely and oil with light gun oil. Also check to see if the safety is interfering.
