Need some help from the pros out there. Took the sks out to the range today. Worked fine. Took it home for a good cleaning. Field stripped and cleaned it. Something i have done a dozen times before. Reassembled fine. After I was done I tried to run a few dummy rounds through the rifle to ensure the action is good. This is where i had problems.

First round chambered fine and extracted fine. The second round chambered fine but refused to extract at all. Round came out about a quarter of a inch and it refused to come out any further locking the bolt into place behind it. After taking the reciever cover off and removing the recoil spring and opening up the magazine i still couldnt get the bolt and the bolt assembly to come out as the extractor was still latched onto the partialy chambered round. After this i took a cleaning rod and went in through the muzzel end of the barrel. With two quick taps on the partialy chambered round, it released and came out with the bolt assembly with it.

I reasembled tried again thinking it might have been a fluke. Same thing happened again on the first round of my second attempt. I thought maybe the extractor was screwed up so i diasembeled it and cleaned it more thoroughly. But im still having same problem after trying it again. Thought maybe there was some build up in the barrel on the breech end. Cleaned and tried again. No luck.

Im completely baffeled. It appears the dummy rounds are getting stuck in the barrel. Havnt a clue why. Used them before without any problems. I seriously doubt the dummy rounds are faulty as i thouroughly inspected them and they are not damaged in any way and they are somewhat new and have worked flawlessly on the occasions i have used them before. I would prefer not try live rounds to see if they work fine.

So any help, ideas or tips would greatly be appreciated on fixing this annoying problem. It is a 1950 russian tula in a tapco stock btw.

General purpose cleaner. Cant remember the name off the top of my head. Always worked fine before. Time for a solvnent bath maybe?

Lacquer thinner (go figure ;)) works wonders. A brass brush for 20 ga. will get it out mechanically.

Or it could be your dummies. They may have become deformed somehow. Solid plastic or the brass-based snap caps?

Unless it does it with live rounds when you're shooting, I wouldn't even bother with the thinner or brush.

Sounds like a weak or worn extractor spring. If the chamber cleaning with laquer thinner dosn't work the replace the extractor & spring. This will most likely solve this problem.
On a side note I had this issue on Saturaday @ the range a few time but nothing a piece of 2x4 couldn't cure. Droped a couple of dab's of oil on the extractor by were it meets the retaining pin & procceded to work it in a few times with my hand moving the extractor and never had the problem for the rest of the day.
I was shoot over 500 rounds in just under 2 hours @ a 12"x12" gong @ 200 meter's & this issue only occured on the first few clips.
