SKS Tula vs Izzie?

Why are Izzies seem to be more desirable? just because not as common or are they better Quality?

Also where exactly are they from? someone said the factory is in Ukraine is this true? if so were they made there or refurbished? and of course how do you tell them apart?

Well Izzies are rarer to start with since the majority of SKS were made at Tula because Izhevsk started making the AK-47 on a larger scale. The majority of SKS's were getting here are coming in Ukrainian Army wooden crates but it does not mean the factory is there.

Two of them (mine and a shooting friend) bought at Lebaron, Ottawa on Monday and Thursday of this week.... were Izhevsk marked and in reasonably good condition.

Whatever I saw to date came from Ukrainian crates.

There are several emporters currently. Most seem to be comming from Ukraine, though at least one importer (Westrifle) is getting theirs from Russia.

The quality of the Westrifle guns on a whole show it. Sure there's the odd mint franken-pinned gun. And none of the first IZH-Impex batch can honestly be called mint. All of them had scratches,chips or bumps of some sort.

Maybe the Russian guns were just that much better cared for vs the Ukrainian ones?

Tulas are marked with an arrow inside a star. Izzy's are marked with an arrow inside a triangle, inside a circle.
