At today's BC SKS shoot-out, had to take pics of this unique SKS. Now we need Curtton to tell us what it really is.

Now we know.

It's a Vz 52/57 from Czechoslovakia.

C, Vz did not win. The link you provided is a wealth of info.
W, thanks for the ID.
F, The gas system and stock are different - the bolt, action, barrel quite similar.
5440, This is why CGN is resourceful. Lotsa of guys to help answer questions. Now its known this is not an SKS - still would'nt mind owning it.

As a result of Curtton/Woodbeef's ID, here is another link for some history:
http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl14-e.htm

Last Sunday the owner shot 15 rounds - 200 yds. and I spotted. The VZ has not fired for 10 years. First 8 shots to sight and make adjustments. Of the remaining 7, 5 hit the 8"x11" paper target.

Got my '53 SKS out and shot 15 rounds with the VZ owner spotting for me. 4 rounds hit paper.

V - Owner of VZ
P - '53 SKS

Weird SKS...

Even the bolt is totally different in its concept: it is a FRONT-TILT/LOCK bolt; SKSes have a rear-locking bolt.
The extractor is a very peculiar pivoting horseshoe-shaped thing that grabs the upper circumference of the shell.
As for the ejector, it is a retractable spring loaded rod which is found in the bolthead and kicks the brass so it lands LEFT of the shooter at about 10 o'clock.
There's no parentage whatsoever with the SKS in these rifles apart from the 7,62x39 combloc round.
And BTW, if the owner of that VZ had known how to shoot it, maybe the competition's outcome would have been different... ;)
PP.

Does this site bring in all that missing info or what!!!! PP, your technical comparison puts the VZ into true perspective.
The owner bought the VZ 15 years ago and shot 20 rounds the first time and none till last Sunday and yesterday. Hopes he puts it back in the safe and stops using it - until the time I can buy it from him!:canadaFlag::sniper:

Oh yes! if you can get it from him, do it, you'll be pleased!
I have a sticky in the making on this forum about the take-down and cleaning of that very special and one-of-a-kind rifle.
