SKS vs VZ58

Have owned a few of both...

SKS = Cost savings winner!~ (a reliable rifle on the cheap that shoots cheap ammo)
VZ/CZ = Cool winner!~ (detachable mags, much lighter and hella ###y (and shoots cheap ammo))

Ok, now I know that a lot of you are going to side with the VZ58 as its newer, performs well, but so does the SKS. My questions is very general, and I want to know what the real advantages of the 858 are. Its something like 3-5x the price (depending on what you get)

The main advantage I see is that the 858 is lighter, and may be a little more accurate, but wanted to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Also, do any of you reload 7.62x39 ammo? Any pointers there?

Thanks in advance

I really like my SKS but I will hunt with my 858 for accuracy, weight, and detatchable mag. Also a pimped 858 beats a pimped sks any day IMO. I still think that you should own both but start with the sks. If you love the sks then the 858 is an absolute must.

Ya I figured that out the hard way, I was using a bore snake instead of the brush that comes with the gun. So the chamber wasn't never got cleaned.[/QUOTE

I only use the military cleaning kit for my CZ858 and work great(i have an additional rod rod section so no problem with the longer barrel). The kit and some patchs and bore cleaner its all needed equipement to keep the rifle ready!

For the non-hunter who wants cheap fun at the range on a budget, SKS is the way to go. For a hunter, nothing is more compact and easier to carry then a 858 with a folding stock. Fold it and sling it on your back and you can crawl threw nasty #### all day long without getting snagged once.
