I apologize, and I am quite sure this has been asked before, and probably more than once. The black blade bayonet Russian SKS. Is that always a refurb thing? Or were some originally made that way?

Just trying to figure out what I have here. It is a numbers matching 1950 Tula, no chrome lining in the barrel, and no obvious refurb marks and with a black bayo. It would seem too good to be true for it to be unissued. But it sure looks good.

A lot of refurb SKS's didn't have the obvious refurb marks. The rifle as a whole has to be taken into account when determining refurb/unrefurb. Refurb can be as simple as a replaced bayo to full refurb, replaced parts including barrel etc. Yours may still have original barrel but may have had some parts replaced. The black blade bayos are refurb. We would need detailed pics to confirm refurb extent as even numbers matching can still be refurb.

I got 2 55/56 from the ctc in freddy black bayo no refurb marks but they are refurbed.Very nice job though, I got the last of the bunch and still not bad, the ones I seen first, 2 months before had amazing bluing and finish on them but couldn't buy at that time, beautiful rifles!

Are those SKSes with black bayos are more desirable? Like the one with spiked one? Thinking about getting one for meself for plinking, but would like to get some fancy once. Black bayo looks really nice.

The black SPIKE bayo are the first SKSs made. They are the original SKS 45. Changes were made over the course of their production. The black spike were only on the '49 and a very few of the early '50 SKS's. As the '49s were made for only a portion of that year, there are relatively few in existence thus desirable even in refurb condition. They are basically collector guns. You can shoot them if you wish but I won't shoot the 4 I have. Others can do as they like with theirs. The black BLADE bayos are a refurb bayo put on during later refurb. Original bayos are shiny steel. Thus while of little collector value, a lot of people like them for the blacked out look they give the SKS.

On the subject of Black/Blued Blade Bayonets for the Russian SKS. Im looking for one and if anyone knows of anyone id appreciate contact....Or even the Bright finish Bayonet would suffice i don`t want the Parkerised ones..
Cheers for any info

When I bought mine from Lever Arms a few years back, all they had was either the black blade or the black bolt assembly. I'm not sure what they stock now?
