looks like im trading a shotgun of mine for a sks in minty condition other than the fact that the guy before me was shooting milsurp and a case split and the rim ejected, any idea how to get it out and is there any cool ways to mod it other than the stock(im new to sks's im more of a mosin freak)i always liked the idea of camoing it,any ideas would be great

thanks

Had a friend of mine break a case and could not get it out. We tried the brush, case extractor and some other tricks but nothing. Cold/heat nothing. Had to take a chisel and cut one line in the case enough to collapse it enough to get it out. Had to crank a bolt extractor in there and tap it out with the cleaning rod and hammer. That corrosive works fast!

- Go to the hardware store and get some JB stick weld.

- Take some stick weld and make it into a ball the size of the base of the cartridge.

- Shove ball of stick weld into broken case, try not to get any stick weld on the chamber or feed ramp.

- Wait 30 minutes for stick weld to harden.

- Take cleaning rod and push it down the barrel from the muzzle end until it rests on the stick weld.

- Take a hammer and lightly tap on the cleaning rod.

- Broken case will pop out with 2 - 3 taps.

- If case doesn't come out with 2 - 3 taps, give it a few harder hits.

Sometimes the JB weld will get knocked out instead of the case but this is very rare. In this case, you will need to cut a lip in the base of the broken cartridge then try again. Broken shell extractors rarely actually work. The case isn't actually stuck unless you've already banged on it with a chisel or something stupid. The case is just in an awkward position to get a good grip on it to get the case out.

Probably a dirty or corroded chamber that made the case stick in the first place. Sometimes excess cleaners and oils in the chamber will turn to glue when they mix with burned powder residue. When that happens a penetrating oil or solvent helps to release the case, followed by a good scrub so it doesn't happen again.

Shove in a piece of ready rod and crank it out with bolt and wrench.

Give your chamber a good cleaning with a brass .410 brush on the end of a cordless drill and inspect it really well. Your chamber is either really dirty or pitted. Cases don't get stuck without a good reason.

Hunted with a guy who's rifle had a head separation every 1st or 2nd shot. He had to carry a bolt extractor and cleaning rod with him everyplace he went. Never could convince him to throw cases away and load down a bit in 25 years. Never did find a broken shell extractor in a gun store in all that time so they must be common.

Take the stock off and remove any plastic bits. Use lacquer thinner or nail polish remover and pour some in the barrel above the chamber. I let mine sit overnight, a few taps in the morning with a old cleaning rod and it fell out.
