SKS with wiggly stock.

Did a search and nothing came up. Likely been asked before tho.

Simple question. The stock on my SKS has some back and forth wiggle room. Not much but the stock isn't tight on the action/barrel. It's good and tight for up and down but if I grab the barrel and push the stock back and forth it has some room to wiggle.

Is this normal?

I'm figuring the stock dried and may have shrunk a little. Would shimming the "nosecap" (or whatever the hell it's called) improve accuracy noticeably or should I just leave it? I'm not looking for 4" groups at 200 yards ... if I can hit a 8x11 sheet of paper I'm happy lol.

i used a 2 part expoxy to bed the stock of my sks ....... it did help , but not much .
it also made removing the stock off of the rifle difficult .

after doing a ton of work to it that would make any other rifle a tack driver it still throws up shot like paterns at 100 yards ..... meaning that 10 rounds fired at a 8x11 pieces of paper MIGHT all hit .

something i haven't tried yet is firelapping the bore and using bullets with a very long bearing surface , somthing in the 180 - 200 grain range .
i'm thinking that the chrome plated bore needs to be seriously worked over .
but then again the rifle i have is a norinco , the steel is very soft , and by the time i worked the kinks out of it , it would be completely wore out .

My SKS has this wiggle room to. If you hold the stock and shake the rifle back and forth you can hear and feel the barreled action moving. You can bed the rifle as mentioned, or just stick some shimming material (what ever works.) in the stock.

Common problem. Put a piece of leather or rubber behind the receiver.

So far for modifications to my sks I have gotten a trigger job done, it helped the letoff 100 percent, still having problems with accuracy, so I am going to try the rifle w/shims in the ferrule. I am eventually going to try a fibreglass stock w/ bedding job, if that does not improve things, I will have to try my hand at reloading, maybe some 150 grain bullets, if none of this works I will cut my losses and get an M44
