I was thinking about buying the Archangel stock for my SKS but I can't seem to get the UHG wood piece off of the Gas Tube? I was reading that there is a little pin in there that you have to punch out, but mine has an outline on one side but it doesn't appear to go all the way through. I used a hammer and punch to no avail. Am I missing something? Does the Archangel kit come with a new gas tube?

Mine was the same way ground so flush that I couldn't see the outline of the pin/rivet. I had to keep working at it from both sides until it finally broke free.

I found this job to be a hassle and not something I wish to repeat. I hope you have better luck with it than I did.

One end of the rivet is tapered. You may be hammering on the flared end causing no result.

Ideally, drilling the rivet/pin out is most effective. That will destroy the pin. Tapco supplies a replacement pin with their stock sets. Not sure AA does though.

Like EL said, you may be hitting the wrong side of the pin. The other end of the pin is there, just they are usually ground flush and blued over top, making it almost invisible. I have heard a bit of sandpaper on the other side will remove some of the blueing and show you where the other side of the pin is, so then you can clearly see which side is the smaller side.
Even if you are trying on the right side though, they can be very tough to get out, but i suggest avoid drilling the pin out unless it is a last resort, once it's drilled it's gone forever.

I don't know about the Archangel, but I know Tapco sells a railed polymer handgard with tube for use in their Intrafuse stock if you can't unpin your tube.

Edit: Should clarify, it is sold separately from the intrafuse stock system.

Even my gunsmith farted with that pin forever.

Sounds like I'm not going to buy the Archangel kit. Not worth the hassle when I already pounded the hell out of it and it didn't budge. Mine wasn't blued if I remember correctly, I'll check later when I disassemble it again.

I checked the video and this guy made it look easy:

It's inthere like it's pressed in place.i took 1 out and cracked the handguard in 2.it came out but i used a rivet gun with a pin punch snap to get it moving.

Anyone sell the gas tube assembly with roll pin/rivet just in case I f@ck mine up or want to buy the piece to make my life easier?

The AA kit comes with a new pin, in case you have to drill out the pin. My personal experience on my chinese sks caused me to break my handguard in two due to poor support of the handguard while trying to get it out. I ended up having to drill it out. Now that I have the aa kit on, I wouldn't go back anyhow. The ergonomics are so much better with the aa kit, although its heavy.

I bought a brass hammer/punch set and didn't have any issues getting mine out. Going back in took some patience. Having the right tools will make life much easier!

I did this with my SKS during my tapco phase, it was a PITA. Managed to get it done though. When I got sick of the tapco junk I managed to get it back together with no problems, but again, PITA. As someone above already said, proper tools and patience are the key. My advice? Rifle is fine, comrade. No need to tacticool a $200 beater gun. It wont shoot better, it probably wont be lighter, spend the $$$ on ammo and shoot the sh@t out of it. Happy Happy Happy.
