SKS Wooden Stock

I've got a SKS with a laminated stock. I was looking at the overpriced synthetic stocks, thinking of painting a camo pattern for fun, but if I can find another wooden stock to do the same, I'd prefer that.

Anyone know if someone is selling hardwood/laminated SKS stocks that will fit a '54 Tula, online or otherwise? Anyone sporterize theirs and is willing to part with the orig wooden stock?


I was looking at getting the ATI dragunov from cabelas, at 74.99, decent price, but heard bad reviews, then heard bad reviews of the choate one, and don't want to pay $150 for a tapco that I'm going to mess up with paint. I figure wooden one would be best option, unless there is a cheaper synthetic stock out there.

Several of the site sponsors are selling new ATI replacement stocks for around $50-60.00. I much prefer the longer LOP offered by the ATI stock over the factory wood stocks.

Way to go with that educated generalization.

My scoped but stock 1950 mfg POS manages 1.5 inch groups with hunting ammo at 100 m. Reliable as hell. Not bad for a $220 rifle.

I remember calling people names when I didn't like what they said... when I was 8. A representative of the firearms community should be a bit more mature.

With that said, you are highly mistaken calling it a POS. Sure they've been known to slamfire, it's no big deal just keep the firing pin clean and lightly lubed. The SKS is a great firearm, for the price. It's realiable, easy to maintain, cheap to feed and has decent accuracy out of the box. I don't think anyone is expecting to shoot 1MOA at 600yrds, it's just not that type of rifle. In my opinion the SKS is worth every penny and everyone should own at least two

As for his comment, I realize the SKS is not the best gun, but it is fun and cheap to plink with. And I've never had a slam fire because I keep my guns clean and in good working order.

If I wanted something accurate, I'd use my Tikka, and If I wanted something exspensive as hell to plink, I'd get an AR.

Can you kindly stop spewing utter non-sense? A stock SKS (in other words, an un-f**cked with SKS) in good trim that is properly maintained WILL NOT do this. After 2000+ rounds, my SKS has been stellar.

I have few rifles worth 10x or more what I paid for each my SKS's, but I still consider my SKS's to be excellent rifles, and perform as they were designed.

Nones of my SKS has ever slam fired. Keep the firing pin clean and dry, no lube, and will not slam fire even with commercial ammo. Check your info before making that kind of uninformed statement.......

There is a nice looking hardwood(?) sks stock w/ gold bayonet on the EE right now.
I love the golden bayonet look.
