SL8 Magazine Conversion

I'm considering buying an HK SL8 but only want one if I can effectively convert it to take AR-15 magazines. I know there are magazine well adapter kits sold in Canada and was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them. I'm not worried about altering a rifle to install the adapter. I just want to make sure they are know to work in terms of cycle reliability.

I got one for my HK a year or two ago.

Jamie on the board here used his dremel and took out two little knobs that need to be removed for it to work.

I've never had a jam, it has always worked well. Mine I got from Wolverine.

Wolverine has them, but there is also a model available from Top Notch Parts in the US.

Im not sure if they are the same manufacturer.

I had one, worked alright, but was really really really tight to the sides of the mags. They did not drop free, which I rather like them to do, so I no longer have it.

But expensive and hard to find, hence the AR15 conversion.

Plus, you still need to modify either your G36 mags or your SL8 to fit them because of the 2 tabs in the magwell.

So are you saying that if I hack a couple of tabs of my black SL8-5 that I can use G-36 mags. I was told I would have to use a AR mag well conversion if I wanted the look of 5/30 mags?

Yes, but G36 mags are expensive ($120+) and hard to find.

The AR15 magwell conversion works, but the mags will _not_ be drop-free. Mine scuffed the mags pretty deeply when going in and out. You still have to take the divits out of the receiver - a careful but easy job with a dremel.
