Can you (legally) modify your sl8 into a g36 clone or mp5 clone. I have seen pictures, I am just wondering. I would think that it would be impossible to monitor. And if it is legal can someone here post links to instructions and or pics of there own. P.s does modding it make it Restricted?

In ganeral terms , Yes its legal to mod. However certain things will make it prohibited or restricted. Cutting the barrel to less than 18 inches will make it prohibited. Buying a manufactured barrel less than 18 inches will make it restricted. Also the overall length has to be maintained if you want to stay non-restricted. Folding stocks will also determine classification. I've never seen an MP5 clone based on an SL8.
A G36E with a folding stock that retains an overall length of 26 inches when folded is the only version that is non-restricted.
As for monitoring, IT IS YOUR RESPOSIBILITY TO INFORM THE CFC OF ANY CHANGES IN CLASSIFICATION.

You can make a Fiero look like a Lamborghini... but it still remains a Fiero on paper
Same applies to firearms (just be sure to watch barrel lengths and overal lengths).
