Hey guys I recently picked up a sl8 converted to a g36 clone but I would like to find a rail with the built in I believe 1.5x optic? I'm not a expert I just recently bought the rifle off a fellow cgner for a gift for old man. I also checked sl8 info thread but did not see it.

Wolverine Supplies or any HK dealer may be able to find one for you, BUT for what it's worth the carry handle optics are garbage. (especially for what you pay for them)

I've seen and used the 1.5x and the 3x/red-dot combo and they are barely usable as optics. Getting a nice 1-4 rifle scope or an Aimpoint (or clone) and a flip-to-side magnifier would both be far superior options.

If you are 100% dead-set on a carry handle optic, keep your eye on the EE. I don't think most people keep them once they get some use out of them, I've seen most guys get aluminum picatinny rails and then put a decent optic on top of that!

YMMV.

The manufacturer is called Hensoldt There are couple of generations,

Domestic: Dual Optic 3X and a red dot on top
Export model: 1.5X with molded irons on top
Gen2: 3X Optic with pictanny rail on top

Ahh I wasn't sure how well they worked as I have never got my hands on one. Maybe I'll just throw a red dot on for time being. Got a vortex with 3x magnifier can throw in for him till decides what he wants.

That's a good plan! :)

I do really like the current 1-4 or 1-6 optics they have out, Vortex has some nice ones (the Viper PST with either target turrets or capped turrets), or even the burris MTAC is good for a range/plinker gun (I don't know that i'd use an MTAC for predator defense but target shooting yes!)

The only downside to red-dots is as you get older the dots will distort more with any eye defects (astigmatisms etc...) whereas you can sorta compensate with a magnified optic for that.
