I finally got some time to sight in my new optics and shoot off the hand loads I made a few weeks ago. I thought about a few different long range scopes but ended up getting Bushnell 4200 Elite 6x24x40 off the EE.
I first sighted in the optics using Winchester White Box 55gr FMJ's, as best as I could. The groupings weren’t very consistent so i had to use 10 round groupings instead of 5.
At 100 yards here is what the average target looked like once I got it on the paper. The groupings I was getting with White Box were terrible. Some as good as 3" others as bad as 7". Wasn’t at all impressed. However I was expecting this that’s why I reload for this rifle. Disregard the 1" markings on the paper, not to scale.
And here are the results with my hand loads.
They all used Winchester White Box once fired brass, tumbled, neck sized, trimmed, fitted with Winchester small rifle primers loaded with Varget powder and propel a 75gr PRVI HPBT projectile.
24.0 grains of Varget
First 5 shots gave me a 2" grouping. Next 5 shots were 1.2"
24.2 grains of Varget
1.4" then 1.15"
I let the barrel cool off a little while I enjoyed the rest of my Chicken Sub from Subway, lol.
24.4 grains of Varget
1.3" both times
24.6 grains of Varget
2.25" and 1.6"
Again I let the barrel cool down a little while I cleaned up the brass.
24.8 grains of Varget
0.8" and 1.6"
The data isn’t totally clear cut in my opinion. I don’t know if it was my shooting skills today, or any part of the reloading process. Either way I had a fun day at the range.
