Slavex: PX4 Storm SD (!)

It seems as a lot of new pistols are being offered in .45ACP these days.
I don't mind the looks of the PX4 it's growing on me.

:D Thanks for the link... wonder how much they will go for up here.

cool :)

but i just picked up a Steyr which is the same size as Px4, and don't really need another polymer pistol.

btw I don't even mind the extra barrel length actually I like it...

I know that regular Px4 in US doesn't cost any more than a Glock which is around $450.

So, is Px4 Storm .45 competing head on with HK45 and Sig P220 Combat TB?
Seems like what with color scheme and configuration, these pistols are going after very specific market, don't you think? Which one would you go for? Which one do you think will offer best value in the end?

My next choice in .45acp wold be the CZ 97 or Tanfoglio series. The latter offers conversion kits in a number of calibers that is an intriquing option.

The Beretta got by on politics last time I doubt they will have that advantage this time around.

Looks like there might be a chance that we can import these over once they're available in civie market. ;)

Spec sheet on BerettaDefence.com states the barrel on that is 115mm long.
Now that would work. There were rumours on the Bforum that there might be a longer barrelled PX-4.
Now how long are we going to have to wait before it makes it here....

.45 ACP Procurement News

From American Rifleman, pp. 37, 56, July, 2007

"In August of 2005, the U. S. Special Operations Command issued a Presolicitation Notice, in which it announced the intent to purchase up to 649,000 caliber .45 ACP pistols for use by SOCOM and eventually by all armed services. The gun was to be a non-developmental item, which meant an off-the-shelf-pistol that already existed and required no development. Performance specifications were included....the total number of pistols to be procured was divided between 600,000 with a manual safety and 49,000 without one."

"Three special characteristics listed as objectives that would not result in disqualification if omitted. One of them is an ergonomic enhancement in the form of modular grip adjustments....Another objective is a force-on-force training module that essentially converts the pistol to a low-velocity paintball gun for use in realistic training scenarios. The last of the three is probably the most controversial--a Wepon Shot Counter...that counts the number of times the pistol is fired. The information thus accumulated would be downloaded into a computer.

"Beretta will have a pistol in the trials, but it it sholding its cards close to its vest.....

...The SigArms entry will be an updated version of the P220....

Although it is not well-known, Glock has put safeties on its guns for other markets in the past....

The Taurus entry will be a modified version of the 24/7 with a slightly extended barrel....

....the FNH entry...would be a truly new gun that represents all of the best features of several recent designs plus much more....

Para...would be a version of the ...LDA series....

the H&K entry will be...very close to the USP Tactical .45....

It looks like this is Beretta's entry for the US military contract. The main contract for 600,000 pistols has been suspended, IIRC, only the SOCOM bit is going forward at the moment.

So, I'm a little confused now. Is it that Beretta's .45ACP version of the PX4 will be its entry in the SOCOM procurement?

It is the .45 version of the PX4. It's entry for something to compete with Sig & HK. :p

Is SOCOM still procuring only .45ACP pistols?

Most likely yes.
