Well years ago my father had a Slavia 620. It was the first rifle I ever got to shoot as a kid.

Once I moved out he had given the rifle to me. I had used it to shoot rabbits, squirles and just about anything. I had a blast with the rifle over the years. I had it apart and tried to stretch the spring as I had no idea where to get parts or if I could change out with other makes or models.

Well years ago I had decieded to sell everything and move out west for work. So I had given the air rifle to my best friend to hang on too untill I could someday ship it or get it back some how. Well 4 months later he did the same thing, and moved out.... His wife did something with the rifle and it was "lost".... He had NO idea what she did with it, nor did she remember where it went.

Well I've since moved back to New Brunswick. My buddy still lives out west and was home for a visit. He was coming to stay with me for a few days and shows up with my fathers long lost air rifle!! While he was at his fathers house, he was going through all the guns and stumbled accross a gun case up in the attic. He asked what was in that one, and they had NO idea... lone behold it was my gun. So his wife must have dropped it off and didn't remember!

This gun used to shoot super accurate, and I had chronied it at 425fps years ago on a paintball range. Well like I said I knew it was in need of a tune up.

So I tore it apart pulled the crappy wore out leather piston seal off and went to a Leather Harness Shop and got him to make me a new seal. It was WAY too tight, and the gun wouldn't compress the piston. So I tore it back apart and kept woking it back and forth untill it moved nicely. I had to replace the trigger spring seeing how it was broke but worked dangerously...I bought a rubber O-ring kit to replace the barrel seal. I ordered a new BSA Metor main spring from D&L airguns in BC as well to really get it up to par......

Sorry I didn't take any pics of the new leather piston seal. I will once I tear it apart to install the new spring.

I must say though tha after I replaced that seal, I found the gun didn't seem to have the power it used too.... but maybe it's because the piston needs to wear in a bit, seeing how tight the actual seal was.... and obviously with the new spring it will have more power. Original spring was roughly 8" and new one is 9.5".

Here she is....

Oh and I'm going to rub it all down with steel wool and re-blue the entire gun....

I still kick myself for selling my 620 back in the 70's. I dispatched literally thousands
of critters with that rifle up to raccoon size, and it always shot true.
I finally got back into air rifle shooting with the purchase of a nice Diana M52 that
I'm gonna completely blueprint to perform it's best. But I wish I still had that
620.....Damn! f:P:

Well I sure hope it regains some of the power once I get the new spring installed and the piston seal gets "broken in". I see yours came in at 585fps. I believe from what I have read, that the 620 should range between 575-620fps... With a spring upgrade, should come close to 700fps. I'll be happy if I can get er up to 600fps+

Either way, it's great to have it back....

Where does one get a spring upgrade kit? I would like to power this little thing up. Never even thought about it till I read this thread.

What would such a thing cost? I only paid 40 bucks for the gun.

I paid $45 shipped from D&L Airgun in BC. That was for a BSA Meteor Spring. I found all the info from the Canadian Airgun Fourm.

Slavia 620 main spring should be roughly 8"
BSA spring should be roughly 9.5"

So I'm sure the old main spring is wore out... shes had a lot of compression over the years....

The leather seal is actually easier to make than you think. I made one out of fairly thin leather and it works great. The temptation is to make it out of thick leather, but thin is the best. Something along the line of leather jacket type thickness is plenty. Probably about half the thickness of a full hide. Best part is that for a couple of bucks at some leather supply house you can buy enough leather to keep the gun supplied for 200+ years.

The other trick that I use is to lubricate the leather with Neat's foot oil. That keeps the leather supple . WD-40 or other mineral based oils will just dry it out. I just dump a few drops of Neat's Foot Oil into the air chamber from time to time and she's a happy camper.

Wonderful airguns. Mine is 44 years old and still shoots like a laser beam.

The seal on mine dried out and the gun barely even fired the pellet out. A guy at work told me to fill the gun with some 3-in-1 oil by putting it in where the air come out and let it stand up for a few weeks. Worked like a hot damn. Didn't even have to take it apart. My kid still uses it.

Well yesterday I installed the new BSA spring. What a difference!!!!!! I mean like wow. Then again the stock spring was wore out, but WOW! It wouldn't shoot a Gamo Raptor pellet down the barrel before, now they come out like nobodies business! lol.

It does diesel, but I'm not worred about that! It would never break a beer bottle before, like even if you put the gun right up to it. Now at oh say....15yrds, smash goes the bottle.

I do notice it makes quite a loud spring slam type noise, but I can live with that!

I'm going to buy some pointed pellets, and try er out on some crows. I have a lot around the house. Now to just break it in and have some fun.

Nice gun and great story. I've got a Slavia 631, it'll be the first one my daughter shoots :)

I have a 631 as well. Saw it at the hardware store and had to have it about 15 years ago. Took it out the first time in about 10 years a couple days ago. Dispatched pests without any issues. They are a nice not very expensive pellet gun.
