I'm pretty new to airgunning. I'm primarily interested in 10m rifle and pistol shooting. I have a beeman ar2078a co2 rifle and a baikal izh 46m which I currently shoot. I'm pleased with both and have just purchased a slavia 634 spring rifle. It is basically brand new and I'm wondering if there is a break in period on these rifles. Roughly how many pellets should you put through it before expecting the groups to tighten up. I know any rifle can be ammo sensitive as to how well it shoots in the end but wondering on the break in period if there is one. thanks Dugd

If this rifle is new, then you might find that a residue of assembly grease from will be in the spring chamber. This stuff may effect consistency of the rifle's power for the first few shots. This is because the grease may detonate and so become fuel for more velocity in a very uncontrolled fashion. This is normal and it will stabilize soon. As far as I know there is no other proven break-in need. One thing about air guns, and spring guns in particular, is the amount of mythology about what works and what is needed. Things like pellet washing and lubricating and other opinions are all fun, but you will have to find out what works best for yourself. one big thing, don't fire the gun without launching a pellet. The lack of resistance may damage the gun as the piston has no cushion the stop it's forward travel.
Have fun. I have had a Slavia air gun for more that 55 years, great little gun. I don't use it much any more since I got more powerful spring guns and PCPs.

Thanks for the reply. I believe the rifle had been shot but has been sitting for 4 years since so it should be clear of manufacturing grease etc. I guess I can just look forward to finding which pellet is best suited to the rifle. thanks again. dugd

I have had a CZ630 non-PAL several years now. Essentially the same action and barrel as your 634, but with a lighter sporter/semi match stock.

Its favorite pellet is one from the Philippines called Laser, which is no longer made. The next most accurate is the inexpensive Crosman Premier Hollow Point. In fact this Crosman PHP is the most accurate in my Weirauch HW97 as well, better than Exacts of different diameters. DLAirgun still has a similar pellet, "Crosman Hollow Point LHP77 .177 (CRS-PL-006) $11.99"

But for 10 meter target shooting, DLairgun also has this "Super Match LM77 .177 (CRS-PL-005) $11.99" wadcutter style. If only for the fact that being a wadcutter style, it makes clean round holes.
